Economic Development

In keeping its mandate the Economic Development Office will continue to work towards providing valuable services to NFN and to the community. The role and responsibilities will be to work with the community, engaging the community on strengthening our local economy, seeking out new economic opportunities, while retaining our existing business wealth.

This past year the Economic Development has been conducting research and compiling information relevant to the services, and to the projects. In the interim the office has been working in conjunction with NFN Programs, Gemini Power, FNSI, Axiom and Zarex. The projects consist of a Combined Heat and Power Plant, Wood Pellet Plant, and a Business Center.

The Economic Development Office assisted in providing guidance and support to entrepreneurs and future entrepreneurs with the registration of their new and existing businesses. Information was compiled; recommendations and presentations were conducted to Chief & Council to obtain approval and support of their business ventures. These businesses are located on NFN land and consist of retail sales, building construction, home renovations, concrete curbing, residential landscaping, brushing and logging.

As we move forward we will continue focusing on strengthening our local economy, by creating sustainable employment opportunities, creating entrepreneurship opportunities for our members. The Economic Development Office will continue to provide valuable services, support and guidance to the community.
