Facilities Management

Last year the development of the Semo Sub-division has provided the opportunity for 84 residential service lots. The new subdivision will provide lots for expanded growth of Nipissing First Nation membership through the cost shared growth fund. This subdivision has been paved and the final electrical installation has been completed. The lots are available to membership through the Lands Department. There will be a fee of $12,500 for services which will include (1) connection to the home for both Water Line and Sewer Collection Line. For the building, in the next five years, the Overhead Hydro Line will be included in this fee.

We have provided additional ditching in the east and west end of our Yellek Community to improve drainage.
Additional grading and gravel of the Yellek road sub-division was completed and the new culverts were added as required in the older part of the sub-division to help widen the road. Much more work will be needed to bring this road to standard condition.
This year there were additional gravel lifts completed in the Ted Commanda extension, V.L.A. Road and planned in these areas.

Water Treatment

Our operators Mark McLeod and Ryan Beaucage are continuing their training to ensure that we have the required training levels for operation of our plants. Soon an overall operator will be appointed.
The Water Treatment has under gone extensive upgrades and has tripled the capacity of our water supply. We are working to iron out any deficiencies in the system. A Capacity Study will have to be completed in the near future.

Waste Treatment Plant

The Sewage Treatment Plant has capacity for forty years of growth. This plant is operated with our Waste treatment Plant Operator Patrick Primeau and overseen by OCWA as the ORO.
The system is of the newest technology with many safe guards build into the system. The access to the service will be set up similar to the water fee structure and the amount will be $160.00 annually.

A Waste Management Policy is being developed to maintain the landfill site and to prevent the possibility of environmental damage to our community.  Abuse of the site by non-residents and surrounding communities is being addressed in the policy and is an important issue due to the possible contamination by illegal disposal of toxic materials.
Chief & Council have directed that the days of operation for the landfill site be changed.  Effective July 26, 2008, the days and hours of operation will be:

Sat., Sun., Mon., Tue. from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
