Native Child Welfare Program

The Child Welfare Program provides family and child support as well as advocacy to the community members on and off reserve with home visiting, office visits, and court attendance in our district.  Our program acts as a liaison between families of Nipissing First Nation and the Children’s Aid Societies from any location.  We provide case management, access services, community resources, and referrals to families in the system; we stay in contact with the family until services are accessed, or that they can access the services they need and advocate for themselves.  The Child Welfare Program helps in the recruitment of new foster parents within the community as an important step in keeping Nipissing children within their home community.

The Prevention Program provides children and youth programs in the community to enhance the physical, emotional and spiritual well being of our children and youth.  There are also parent education activities and family oriented programs. Other community support programs are life skills mentoring, recreational activities, social activities, and child and youth workshops.  All of these events provide information and resources geared toward a better understanding of healthy lifestyles for children and families.

Youth Cultural Retreat

The workshops provide an experience for young adults that will empower them to set goals, gain confidence, encourage and strengthen their ability towards responsible decision making.  In addition, these workshops will assist the youth in our community to consider the emotional, financial and social consequences of parenting and at the same time recognize the behaviors in relationships and identify the quality.

Aboriginal Child Witness to Violence Retreat

Through traditional teachings and culturally based activities, parents and children increase their self esteem and enhance a positive self-image.

After School Kids Social

The purpose of the program is to help working families who need the extra time support and reassurance that their children are safe after school.  Children are provided with a safe and healthy environment to socialize while waiting for parents to get home.
