Forestry

It has been a costant learning process for the forestry department. Equipment Investments were made and staff training was a priority to use our resources effectively.

There were some challenges including vandalism, missing equipment, breakdowns. Even with all of these setbacks, the forestry department remains in a position to continue to be a viable operation that can provide many public services to our community.
Staff is working hard to continue to produce and we remain confident that we will meet many of our goals. Some of which include:

Bullet Building capacity to deliver an improved forestry program within NFN
Bullet

Providing benefits to those in need in the NFN community in the form of supplemental wood for heating
Bullet

Making enough money from firewood cut on Crown Land to finance the forestry division
Bullet Creating and maintaining at least four full-time forestry jobs

Staff training will continue to expand into the coming years as we come our of the growing phase.  Expansion is in the near future an NFN green energy wood pellet plant on the horizon. Preparations are in the works.

The forestry department would like to thank the Canada-Ontario Resource Development Agreement (CORDA) for its support in financing a new Skid Steer for the department. The Skid Steer has made our operation much more productive with the addition of this machine.

Nipissing First Nation now has the beginnings of a trained workforce to meet the demand to harvest forest products expected in the very near future.
