Changes to Ontario Gas Card Program

Effective January 1, 2020, the Ontario Gas Card will be discontinued. Instead, First Nation people will use their Certificate of Indian Status (more commonly called ‘Status Cards’) as proof of entitlement to buy tax-exempt gas on reserve.

NOTE: You do not need to get a new secure Status Card. The Status Card issued by our Membership Office remains valid.

The government says this change is intended to simply the process for First Nation individuals and bands to purchase tax-exempt gasoline on-reserve. For more information, please refer to the Proposed Amendment to Ontario Regulation 533: Gas Card Modernization

For more information about registering for a Certificate of Indian Status, please visit the Status Cards section of our website.
